Map of Turquoise
Providenciales, or more commonly known as "Provo", covers an area of 38 miles and is the most developed island in Turks and Caicos. It is here where most international flights arrive at the Providenciales International Airport (PLS). Surrounded by beautiful white sand beaches, Provo has been ranked "Best Beach" by Conde' Nast magazine and by the World Travel Awards for several years running. Found on the western end of the island chain, Provo offers all modern conveniences, including luxurious hotels, villas and condos, numerous restaurants, spas and shopping facilities, a championship caliber golf course, and full service grocery store. Although Provo is the most developed of the islands, it is still a destination for those who want to escape their busy schedules and relax. On the north shore of the island, near Grace Bay, you will find the most beautiful beaches, as well as a long coral reef, which is rich in aquatic life. This main stretch is home to the majority of the island major resorts and tourism services.
LOCATION
Just 575 miles southeast of Miami and a little under 90 minutes on American Airlines daily flights, Providenciales is fast becoming the vacation destination of the Northern Caribbean. With an average year-round temperature of 83 F and an annual rainfall of about 35", visitors can be sure they will not be rained out or shivering by the pool.

CLIMATE
The average year-round temperature is 83F (28C). The hottest months are September and October, when temperatures can reach 90 to 95F (33 to 35C). The almost-constant easterly trade winds temper the heat and keep life comfortable. Casual resort and leisure wear is accepted attire for daytime; light sweaters or jackets may be necessary on some breezy evenings, especially in December, January and February. Visitors are advised to wear protective clothing and a sun hat, and use waterproof sunscreen when out in the tropical sun.

BEACHES
Home to the best beach in the World, breathtaking hues from inviting waters, and legendary diving, snorkeling and fishing! Turks & Caicos Islands bring you to an undiscovered Caribbean. Travel to the Turks and Caicos is easy and efficient. Just a short flight from the east coast of the US & Canada and now with Westjet easy connections from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and direct flights year round from Toronto.  The islands are a tropical classic, a throwback in time where relaxation is unavoidable and rejuvenation ensured.

SCUBA DIVING
One look at the geography of the Turcs and Caicos Islands, and it's no wonder this place is wall diving central. Two chains of Islands- the Turks and Caicos- are perched atop a shallow bank, separated by a trench like channel. Depths off shore approach 6000 feet with 50 to 150 feet of visibility, and this meeting place of deep and shallow means huge sponges, healthy corals, seahorses, neck crabs, wine coral shrimp, blennies, dense concentrations of life, and the occasional encounter with out of the ordinary pelagics. Scuba diving packages can be pre-booked in Canadian Dollars.  Turks & Caicos is a simple resort that is rich with great food, great people, amazing diving and snorkeling great beach, and a great nightlife!

AROUND PROVO ISLAND
On the north shore of the island, near Grace Bay where Club Med is, you will find a long coral reef, which is rich in aquatic life. This main stretch is home to the majority of the island major resorts and tourism services.  Towards the south of the island you will find Chalk Sound, a large lake with striking turquoise water and an array of small cays.  Along the south side of the island in areas such as Sapodilla Bay, Copper Jack, Discovery Bay, Turtle Tail and Long Bay you will find many private villas. On the eastern end of the island is Leeward Marina and development. The two main and oldest settlements on the island are the Bight and Blue Hills, and are built around fresh water supplies. Both locations give a real feeling of Caribbean villages. If you wish to do some shopping, Provo can offer a good range of boutiques at Turtle Cove and along the quickly developing Grace Bay Road. Down Town you will find the retail shops, business offices and banks.

CULTURE & HISTORY
Grand Turk Island was where Christopher Columbus first made landfall on his voyage to the New World. History shows that the Caicos islands were a regular stop for pirates in the 16th and 17th century, before a thriving salt business and cotton plantations took over as the commerce of the day. Locals have a blend of ancestors from the Bahamas, Haiti, Great Britain, and Jamaica. In the 21st century, new upscale construction and real-estate speculation are bringing new tourists and permanent residents to the islands.
