The small island of San Salvador in the Bahamas, just 360 miles southeast of Miami, is one of the premier scuba diving and fishing Mecca's of the world. Perched on a pinnacle and washed by warm breezes and clear azure waters. Being one of the southeastern most islands in the Bahamas chain, San Salvador, also known as Columbus Isle, is just twelve miles long by five miles wide and home to approximately 950 residents. Life on San Salvador is pretty much easy going as it has been through the ages. Quiet, friendly and unspoiled it offers miles of deserted beaches and lush underwater reefs that were "discovered" by scuba divers.

ABOUT THE VILLAGE
This village is a terrific vacations sport for adults and couples. Set in the Bahamas, on the Atlantic coast of the island of San Salvador, 320km south-east of Nassau. A vast beach of pink sand, lapped by turquoise waters... Club Med's most sophisticated Village, at the very spot where Christopher Columbus is said to have discovered America. This is real divers's paradise. Yet it's also a fantastic place for complete relaxation.
CLIMATE
The weather is usually nice in the Bahamas : clear sky, sunny, cool breezes help to relieve the heat. Sea fronts may be cold from December to April. Cool nights in june. The hottest period is between May and the end of August - it is during this period that most of the rains fall ; however they will not spoil the GMs'holidays because most of the time they fall at the end of the day or during the night. The climate is then warm and damp. From September to November the air is dry.
BARS & RESTAURANTS
Breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets at Club Med are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, pasta, seafood, cheeses, breads, and desserts. The food and presentation have a distinctive French touch. Daily themes including Italian, Asian, Mexican & Creole. Friday & Saturday nights are usually the Grand Buffet, with delicacies that include caviar, poached salmon, stuffed mussels, shrimp, crab and extravagant desserts.

SCUBA DIVING AT COLUMBUS ISLE
San Salvador offers a wealth of attractions to divers of all abilities and experience. Since the 70's, divers have returned to this island's waters for the healthy coral and fauna life,stunning visability , warm waters, and the dramatic walls that surround San Salvador. Moored dive sites along the protected left side of the island offer safe and convenient diving for even the most demanding diver.

Snorkeling is the best way for the inexperienced ocean swimmer to become acquainted with the stunning beauty of San Salvador reefs. The G.O.s at Club Med will direct you to the finest spots. During your adventure, get ready to view unique ocean life and coral clusters. If you want to venture out on your own, just head to the water from the beach att Club Med or any public beach. The resort offers equipment (snorkel, mask, fins and snorkel and life jacket) and can book you onto a snorkel tour to sites further off shore.
